A Journey to Taiwan’s highest peak - Mt. Jade

Lucidity Honored with the 2024 Common Wealth Talent Sustainability Special

Lucidity’s 7th expedition to Mt. Jade began on September 5, 2024, with a challenging three-day journey to the summit of the Main Peak. The adventure was filled with obstacles, surprises, and unforgettable moments. Reaching the top required not only physical endurance but also individual determination to overcome the steep trails and altitude sickness for the ultimate reward—a breathtaking view from the summit.

Before the trip, a nearby typhoon raised concerns about heavy rain. The team carefully planned for bad weather, discussing what gear to bring and how to face difficult conditions. Luckily, the typhoon moved away, leaving behind moisture that created a stunning sea of mist and clouds drifting through the mountain valleys.

On the first day, the team aimed to reach Paiyun Lodge, a resting point along the trail. At higher altitudes, with less oxygen in the air, even gentle slopes made breathing more difficult. Despite the physical challenges, the beautiful scenery along the way left a strong impression. The lodge was simple but provided much-needed rest. A cup of hot tea helped the team recover and prepare for the next day’s climb.

On the second day, the team set off before dawn to reach the summit. Using only headlamps for light, they climbed a 2.4-kilometer trail with a 600-meter elevation gain, rising above 3,000 meters. The cold air grew harsher as they ascended, and rain gear originally packed for storms was used as windbreakers. Even so, the team encouraged one another, creating a strong sense of unity that kept everyone moving forward.

Finally, they reached the summit. They were rewarded with a stunning sunrise and an incredible sea of clouds. At that moment, all the challenges and discomforts felt worthwhile.

This experience showed the importance of teamwork and determination. The saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,” perfectly reflected their journey. The expedition left each participant with cherished memories and a deep sense of accomplishment.
